This week has been freezing. I actually had to buy another pair of jeans and someone gave me a jacket. The cold has made it real annoying to go out looking for wifi so I apologize for my lack of posts lately. Here is a post about something that happened last week.
So last Sunday was interesting. We didn’t go to church in the morning even though it was Sunday because our host couldn’t pick us up and it just made more sense to stay back until the evening service. The day began with a chill in the air and sunshine in the sky. Kristine and I decided to have a morning coffee date at the local gas station cafe. Yeah, sketchy, but it works and I had a bomb pastry and a decently average cappuccino.
We talked about all kinds of things and even squeezed in a few minutes on the wifi. It was a lovely time. Around 11 am we decided to head back home. However, on our street there was this little fall festival going on and we decided to go snag a little pastry on the walk back. We go in, I whip out my phone to translate the word “strawberry” and then we went on our way.
On the walk back we were laughing at the fact that Kristine accidentally told the pastry lady “good morning” in Albanian instead of “thank you” in Romanian. I was looking at my watch to make a joke about it not even being in the morning and then a car came out of nowhere and I had to jump out of the way to dodge them, but in that process my hand slammed on the hood of their car to catch myself from falling. So yeah. I almost got hit, but their car hood got hit by me instead while I was trying to keep from falling.
We continued to laugh and joke about my almost incident when I reached for my phone. I grasped at an empty pocket. I then checked my other pocket. Not there. A little panic set in as I began searching all the places I possibly could have placed my phone in those 5 minutes since I last had it. Nothing. I ran back to see if I set it down on the counter. Nope. Scanned the ground in case it fell out of my pocket. Nothing. Asked the woman at the stand. She didn’t understand the question.
I really don’t think I was pick pocketed, but I guess nobody ever actually notices that kind of thing. I just couldn’t believe it could happen so quickly. I thought people would have to watch you for a while and maybe target people by themselves, but I guess not. I am hoping it just fell out of my pocket and there’s a lost and found type of deal at the festival.
How do I feel about it? It is just a phone, but I honestly am upset about losing all my photos and videos and the great camera quality it had. I was working on making a video for ya’ll and our host this month too so that’s sad. I really don’t want to have to pay for a new phone either, but I really don’t want to go the rest of the race without taking photos and videos so I kind of have to. I thought about buying a camera instead but I only have a tablet so getting photos off won’t work. Life goes on though and it could have been worse. At least it wasn’t my wallet or passport. I’ll get over it. This week hasn’t been bad without it aside from a few missed photo opportunities.
Life lesson: Make sure you always pay attention. Back up your photos every night. Put your phone in your bag, not your pocket. (Mine are deep front/side pockets on my sweats and my phone still disappeared)
Stay tuned for a post about our ministry this past month and what it has been like. Not sure if I will be able to post that before we leave tomorrow(heading to Bulgaria at 7am) , but I will try my best (:
