This month we got to work with a couple, Karson and Eyson. Their goal in Colombia is to share the love and grace of Jesus Christ with all. The two meet in 2015, dated for 2 days, and got married in 2016.

Both of their hearts stirred for the children and youth of Filandia. In 2017 Foundacíon Pioneros became a legal nonprofit in Colombia. The Lord has been moving within their ministry more so now than ever. Their plans are to continue to grow and possibly form a team of long-term staff. In 2 years they desire to have a custom building to adapt to the continued growth of the ministry. Within 5 years they hope to expand and have the Filandia ministry as the headquarters.

We spent our time working in a few small, rural farm schools right outside of Filandia. They are difficult to get to and typically only have one teacher that teaches all age groups. There are about 10-13 kids in each school. We assisted teachers with English classes, PE games, and Bible classes. On a Saturday a few of us got to spend time with the families in the farm communities. We got to teach a Bible lesson, do a craft, take a snack, and just fellowship. Their goal for the farm schools is to help in schools that are forgotten by doing whatever they can to enrich the student’s lives and studies.

At Foundacíon Pioneros Karson and Eyson offer tutoring and homework help for students of all ages to provide a place for students to come and work on homework independently. For the remaining time, they do different activities with the kids. On Wednesdays, they focus on reading, writing, math, and English. On Thursdays, they try to do creative activities. On Fridays, they either play in the park or watch a movie depending on the weather.

Karson and Eyson provide a church-like atmosphere for children to go to each Sunday. They strive to teach Bible lessons that will form and shape the children’s mind so that they will continue in the Lord’s path.

During our time we also got to partner with a local church in Armenia called Casa de Pan. We got to lead Youth Groups, Evangelism Workshops, and Kid’s services.

The Lord’s love has been shared. The community of kids is growing and helping each other as they share the love of God they are learning about. Karson and Eyson are so thankful for supporters and the supporters they continue to get. As cliche as it may sound they couldn’t do it without the help of the others. When people come alongside they are able to accomplish so much.

Our time here was sweet. It is bittersweet to leave but God is going to continue to bless Foundacíon Pioneros with teams to serve with a willing heart and love on the people of Colombia. God was so good this month and has created a longing heart for the other people I will encounter this next year.
