It’s been eight months now – you know what this is!  

-One night, as I was in bed but still awake, I thought I heard someone say my name. I got up, and found Gretchen standing on top of her bunk bed, ready to pounce. She looks at me, relieved, and says “there were two lizards right near my face!”   So now it’s us vs. the lizards: Gretchen climbs over to the other bunk bed, while I stand at the ready to catch these little nuisances with my hat. Finally we find them and manage to chase them out the windows. 

-Being on top of a mountain wasn’t going to stop us from watching the Super Bowl at 6:00 am, especially since Racquel’s beloved Carolina Panthers were playing. We prepared as well as we could – Racquel had bought a data stick and enough gigabytes to stream the entire game. But of course, in World Race fashion, it didn’t exactly turn out that way. The website wasn’t working because CBS only operates in the US. Thankfully, Racquel’s dad came to the rescue. We called him on Skype and he placed his phone in front of the TV so we could watch. (Mr. Cooke: Peyton Manning may have won his last Super Bowl, but you are the real MVP). 

-In Chiang Mai on one of our free days, we decided to light floating lanterns.  They’re paper cylinders that work like hot air balloons – you light a wick and that’s what makes it float. Unfortunately, if the match is a little misplaced, the whole thing catches on fire. Brittany learned that one the hard way…
