It’s a new month with a new team – welcome to the first blooper reel starring Team August!
-On our first day, we were all very jet-lagged and in desperate need of coffee. A well-timed picture of Lexi and Elizabeth became team legend, hereafter known as “Judgemental coffee drinker.” (Picture at the bottom of the post)
-For our first week at the YWAM base, we took part in a mini-version of their Discipleship Training School. When we (and by “we” I mean Elizabeth and Mallory) were late to a session, there was a consequence: running up and down all three flights of stairs five times. Needless to say, they weren’t late again.
-During our last week, we made a trip to Tikal National Park. This required two overnight bus rides, and on the second ride, my body just wasn’t having it. I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t sit still, and it was downright miserable. So I decided that desperate times called for desperate measures, and lied down in the narrow aisle, fully aware that getting reprimanded by the driver was worth a few minutes of sleep. I woke up back in my seat with absolutely no memory of how I got there.
-Learning and practicing Spanish led to many moments of hilarity when we mispronounced words or said the wrong thing by accident. The most notable came from Elizabeth, who said “Hasta manzana” instead of “Hasta mañana.” What she meant was “See you tomorrow.” What she said was “See you apple.”
