“Move the earth”
There was a man who once said:
“Give me a lever and a place to stand, and I will move the earth!”
Now Mr. Archimedes was a master of physics, astronomy, science and ancient technology
So maybe he was just trying to make a point
Well we all have our points to make, here’s mine:
A place to stand isn’t hard to find
And the lever’s the idea or whatever comes to mind
So why aren’t more of us moving the earth?
Because society takes the earth shakers and the dream chasers and the risk takers
Casts us all aside as troublemakers
And tells us to sit down, shut up, and color inside the lines
But nothing new was ever made by coloring inside the lines
You see, the difference between the artist and the ordinary
Is that the artist sees the world as his canvas, not his prison
And it is a canvas on which he has the right, no, the obligation
To make something beautiful
Give me a lever and a place to stand and I will move the earth!
There are some who are content
With “low risk and low return”
But I want to watch that philosophy burn
Because the only thing a life of safety will guarantee you
Is a life that’s boring
And when you’re gone the world will only see you
As someone who chose to exist rather than live
Who never gave more than what they had to give
And made their exit quietly, unnoticed
But I want to live
So give me a lever and a place to stand and I will move the earth!
You may ask yourself “why me?
There’s someone else more qualified, someone else better
Someone else who can make a change instead”
But if everyone waits for someone else
To carry the weight of the world on their shoulder
“Someone” becomes “no one”
And at the end of the day all we’ll be is another day older
Going in circles, back where we started
Give me a lever and a place to stand and I will move the earth!
And the secret is, it’s not a secret at all
How to step up and respond to the call
It all lies in the answer “yes”
To speaking out and moving forward
You may not choose what’s easy, but you can do what’s right
Stand your ground, don’t go down without a fight
Speak your mind and don’t care what the critics say
And use your gifts, because God made you that way!
It doesn’t have to be perfect, or brilliant, or grand
But take your lever and take a stand
And you, my friend
You will move the earth!
