Some basics for those of you just now dropping in: My sister and I are on an 11-month Christian mission trip to 11 different countries across 4 continents. We’re headed to: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Cambodia, and Thailand. The work will range from country to country in partnership with established ministries in each area.
It’s month 7. My team is in Craiova, Romania.
We’re working with a mission center.
When we arrived in Romania Raul did an immediate resource assessment. He gathered all 36 of us in a room and conducted interviews.
“Where are you from? What is your background? Tell me about your education. What are your passions? What can you do for Raul?”
It was rapid fire and intensive. He had an assistant taking notes. He’d shout things to her like “give a star! Write that I need to introduce her to so-and-so. Highlight that! She needs to be working with me directly. Make a note of that!”
I really respected the technique. Within two hours he had taken a pulse of the entire group. Within two days he had everyone assigned to a job that suited them, that made the most of their time and talents. It was pretty brilliant and excellently administrated.
Miranda’s interview only got so far as “I was a reporter,” before Raul interjected.
“A reporter? For Jesus or for the world?”
She thought for a half second. “For Jesus in the world.”
Taylor and I locked eyes, and she mouthed great answer. I was really proud.
Miranda was drafted into the media team. She and another girl are producing videos for every part of the Hope Church ministry. Some are short videos made up of quick shots. Others are more in depth: testimonials, interviews, and support messages.
Here are two she made of our team:
When you think of Miranda, say a quick prayer.
Raul has a seemingly endless list of projects he’d like her and Jen to complete this month. I’m not worried though. Miranda’s pretty prolific. Already on the Race she’s made 41 videos in 26 weeks. (If you haven’t already subscribed to the Go Sis Go channel, you should do that.)
