I didn’t know what to expect when it came to Cambodia. I knew nothing about the culture. I didn’t even try to learn the language because it was too difficult. The only thing I knew was that their were very few Christians, and that it was a poor country.

I honestly expected to feel darkness when I stepped off of the plane.

I expected people to look at me weird and turn the other cheek.

I expected hate, dirtiness, and disgust…

boy I was wrong.

I landed in maybe the greenest country on the planet.

I stepped off of the plane and felt sunshine. There was no darkness to be found.

I looked out of the window on the bus ride and I didn’t see dirtiness or disgust, all I saw was beauty.

When I rode my bike around town the next day, all I saw was waving hands and smiling faces.

E V E R Y W H E R E  I  L O O K E D! People from all ages, smiling as big as possible and waving their hands as high in the air as they can at me when I rode by.

I didn’t know what to expect, but it definitely wasn’t this. I don’t think I have ever felt so welcomed before. I have only been in this country for 5 days and I feel like I have lived here for years.

Cambodia, thank you for being so beautiful.
