God called me on a journey and I left. I left everything: security, comfort, familiarity, and routine. People thought I was crazy. They question why? Why not do ministry right where you live. And that’s just the thing. I had to leave where I was comfortable to reach a place of brokenness and ultimately dependence on God. That’s where the transformation happens! Dependence is key to transformation and you get dependence when you step out of the familiar, the routine, and the comfort. Jesus called his disciples away from their homes and families to bring them on a three year journey of abandonment and transformation. When he sent them out he didn’t even want them to bring money, food, or extra clothes! Yet other believers would welcome them in and share there food and possessions with them. So here I am in India and I’ve never felt so at home so far away from home. The people here have brought me in to their houses and have shared their food and their milk tea and their love with me. I no longer have one home but now I have many homes and many families all around the world. And in my times of brokenness they have come around me. Jesus as called us all on a journey but he never promised it would be easy. In fact if it was it would be pointless cause there would be no transformation. We all want to be better, we want to change and become more like Christ but we can’t inwardly change without a physical change. Think of all the biblical hero’s and name one that didn’t abandon their routine life and choose to depend on God. My journey is 9 months to Africa Asia and Guatemala. Your journey could be a week in disaster relief in Haiti. It could be a 3 month hike on the Appalachian trail. It could be quitting your job and moving to the ghetto to minister to the addicted and sex trafficked. Remember it’s not at all about the destination or the mileage, but it’s what God shows you along the way. Trust me, you won’t be the same.
