So it’s been awhile since I’ve written a blog so I’m not in India anymore but my new home is the gorgeous place of Guatemala! The reason I probably haven’t gotten around to writing a lot is because there’s more to do here than sit in bed lol! I live at a beautiful base that is honestly about as nice as my house! My team has our own room and bathroom and a big shower that has hot water! Aka the best thing thats happened to me in the last 8 months! My team bought a purple beta fish for our room and his name is Poppy. (Last years squad bought a bunny which didn’t go down too well so we could only buy a fish.. too bad cause we would have totally gotten a turtle) Our base has a huge yard that we play games on! It’s also hosted a couple of crazy events including an upcoming wedding and a helicopter landing that held the president of Guatemala. Just everyday weird world race things… We are currently living in the town of Parramos which is about a 30 minute bus ride from Antigua. We often go to Antigua to hang out, do fun things, watch the annual processions, and buy all kinds of touristy things! I have to quickly explain the bus ride situation cause it’s kinda crazy. A bus that should only fit 30 people somehow fits 70 people which leads to suffocation and sweat. And the things they carry onto the busses.. Yesterday I had a huge, naked mannequin hanging right above my head! Anyways that’s a little info about chicken buses!
My team’s ministry is in San Luisito and most of what we do is teach English and house visits. On Mondays and Wednesdays I teach at a private high school and do fun games with the kids. Tuesdays my team goes to one of our ministry hosts houses and we clean her house and help her learn English by talking with her. Yesterday was her daughter’s 18th bday and so we bought her a cake and a piñata to celebrate with her! On Thursdays we do ATL (ask the Lord) and we go into different communities and ask Him what he wants us to do. Last thursday we got to encourage a guy, heal someone, and bring 2 others to the Lord! And Fridays me and Bekah go to a traditional Mayan weaving class and then to a kids bible study! It’s been my favorite ministry of the whole race!
Time passes so quickly here and its crazy that I only have a Month and a half left but I’m so excited to come back and see everyone! Sorry again for not posting but hopefully this gave you a little idea of what my life is like in Guatemala!
