Wow month nine where did you go?? As the race has gone on the months just seem to get shorter and shorter. This past month in Cambodia has been one of the BEST months I’ve had on the race. here are some things that Cambodia has been to me:
laying in hammocks with my best friends on a cabana we named carl
spending slow, quiet mornings with jesus
walking to the market to get waffles, fruit, and mini donuts for breakfast
chasing chickens out of the kitchen
sweating more than ever imaginable
digging holes with broken shovels for “plumping”
hacking grass until hands are blistered
finding a mouse in the toilet, trying to rescue it, and then watching it drown
visiting homes with 14-year-old translators who don’t know much english
serving food at a once in a lifetime buddhist party
drinking iced coffee from the shop across the street that may or may not give us parasites due to unclean ice
walking and talking with my sweet friend gail at 6 in the morning
being drenched with water from a fire truck and covered in baby powder for the khmer new year celebration
going to the beach with our host family and kids from school
swimming fully clothed in the ocean
reading, reading, and more reading
announcing the color of your pee (ranging from dark yellow to a slightly lighter shade of yellow) to determine the state of your dehydration
hearing children setting off firecrackers at all hours of the day and night
playing duck duck goose in the field behind school
watching the sky turn from blue to pink to black every evening
seeing 10 year olds driving motorcycles and not thinking anything of it
listening to the same cambodian song played on repeat for the entire village to hear at 10 o’clock at night
chasing down the ice cream man when he finally comes down the street
going on evening walks while children blow kisses and shout “helloooo” as we walk past them
washing our hair with the hose outside after doing manual labor because it’s quicker than taking a shower
playing with baby chicks on easter sunday regardless of the fact that easter is not celebrated in cambodia and our host had no idea that for some odd reason we associate baby chicks with easter
having your legs painted by children because paper is simply not good enough
bathing three puppies for two hours to rid them of fleas
Thank you Cambodia for all of the sweet memories!! Here’s to MONTH 10 (still cannot believe i’m saying that).
