Every year brings a new wave of resolutions. People want to cut out sugar, carbs, alcohol. All the things that are perceived bad in order the create a better, healthier version of themselves. With the riddance of these things also comes an increase in exercise. Everyone buys a gym membership, only to abandon it by February. But what if there was a resolution that never tired, and ultimately created the best version of yourself? What if instead of cutting out foods, we cut out toxic relationships, cussing, and other temptations. We filled these gaps with worship, bible study, and accountability rather than endless hours of cardio. My resolution for this year is to walk in God’s path for my life. And while this, to some, may seem like nothing close to a sacrifice, it will be the biggest shift I will make in 2020. For me, it means going to church on Wednesdays rather than putting on another episode of Netflix. It means waking up to my bible and not my phone. It means seeing people for their soul rather than their appearance. It means a complete rewiring of my instincts. And with this shift, I hope to trust in God more, to surround myself by disciples of Christ, to become consumed by my passion for the King of all Kings. I pray this shift prepares me for Colombia, but I also hope it calms my anxiety and fear of going into the unknown. This is my New Year’s Resolution.
