After a few days of debrief here in Lima, Peru and my brain on overdrive, I decided to escape into a world that doesn’t involve thinking about “the process.” What better world to escape into than that of Panem and the life of Katniss in The Hunger Games.

About one third of the way through the book, as Katniss stands in the Launch Room under the arena waiting for the games to begin, I begin to ponder if there is a way that the hunger games could have any connection to the world race; going into the unknown, aware that there are dangers but not sure when or where they might come from, trusting a mentor to help guide you and keep you alive and yet having no power or control over when or what that will look like, making choices that weigh life against love.

It was a few lines after thinking this that I read “Run, find water. The rest will follow.” Despite being so engrossed in this other world, I heard very clearly in my head these words,

“Run, find Jesus. The rest will follow.”

There is no use trying to figure out what might happen this year or what strategies might come in handy each month. The World Race (and life in general) is unpredictable. Living in a state of “what if…” won’t prepare you for the future. There are far too many changing variables to figure out exactly what might happen in the next year, or month, or week or even day. So instead of trying to figure it all out, Run. Find Jesus. Trust that His way is good and that He has a perfect plan in place for our lives and the rest will follow!
