Here is a disjointed, random list of some things that I have seen and been a part of here in Peru. (Because it’s the easiest way to quickly let you know what I have been up to and I like lists.)
~We ride in a comvy (a large 15ish passenger van) almost everywhere (which usually has seats for about 15-20 people, but we usually manage to get at least 25)
~I am pretty sure I have sat on a lap more often than a seat on said comvy rides (oh, the perks of being tiny!)
~I never thought I would find a bug that could annoy me so much, but the sand flies are fighting hard for first place!
~I swear sand flies are actually invisible! You never see one, but after a day’s work you find more bites on your legs.
~Sand boarding is awesome! (It is a lot like snowboarding, but down huge sand dunes instead of snow) ~Your shoe size can shrink by at least two sizes when full of sand. (which makes for a great hike back home!) ~It is a lot harder to hike up a large sand dune than one would originally imagine!
~I honestly don’t believe it is possible to get fully clean when living in a place with only cold showers (at least we have showers right?!) and surrounded by dirt/sand.
~Pushing a wheelbarrow full of sand (through sand!) is a great workout!
~Laughter means the same thing in all languages! 🙂
~Sometimes the best way to communicate is through hand gestures and wacky sound effects! (This should be done much more often in my opinion!)
~There is no such thing as enough rice (even after 3 plates full of squadmates leftovers, you are still hungry again an hour later!)
~Same thing goes for potatoes!
~A portion of chicken usually includes more bone than meat (or all bone and no meat…)
~It’s a great feeling to be able to play volleyball on a court that you helped create!
~A hoe is not just good for breaking up dirt…it also works well to save fellow teammates from scorpion attacks! (Gotcha, sucka!)
~Puppies should be included at all ministry locations (someone at AIM should look into that ASAP!)
Above all, the Lord is working in and through everyone on our squad and in the people that we meet! God is Good, All the Time!
