There is just so much to write about.. so I decided to give you some highlights from our ministry at an orphanage in Mofambise, Mozambique.
Ministry with the orphanage I have absolutely loved! Being around children & playing games all day is my kind of environment. So far, I've led an art lesson where we taught the children shapes, then put them together to make a face (their face), & told them how beautifully made they are. Matt has led a lesson where we helped teach English, showed them different colors, & taught them the days of the week. Also, Andy has led two bible studies, one where we studied the book of John. Usually our days consist of games or lessons with the children in the morning/afternoon, lunch (usually fish or beans & rice), then ministering either door-to-door or praying at the hospital.
One Friday we went & prayed over people at the hospital nearby. It was an extremely small hospital, with only about 15-20 patients. The first room we walked in, there was a little boy with stomach problems (his stomach would not stop swelling for months), a man on his deathbed & who had not talked in months, & another patient who was very sick as well. In other rooms there were sick babies, sick pregnant mothers, & others with malaria. The atmosphere in the hospital was very peaceful, or in other words, I felt the spirit present in that place. We had heard that people came & prayed over individuals here all the day. I knew this was the Lord's house.
The first man I prayed over was the man who had not talked in months. He was breathing extremely fast, looked as though he hadn't eaten in weeks, & had a glare in his eyes of complete fear. I began praying, & asking the Lord for a coolness to overtake his body, for his fever was extremely high. Ha ha & what did Jesus do?? He sent a huge gust of wind into the room!! It was burning up outside, & all the sudden this cool breeze swept through. I was so amazed! Next.. the man started to say something, maybe two or three words in Portuguese. I asked the translator what he said, & the man was trying to tell us that his heart felt trapped. I thought, ok Lord let's do this. Anything not of you I command you to leave this body, I ask for healing, for wholeness, for completeness & health. I want Him to see your face Jesus like the many times you've shown me. We kept praying for a good 5 minutes & eventually moved onto other people to pray for. I left that bedside with so much hope. Regardless of if the man was going to see healing, I knew the Lord was working in Him. I know that the Lord is always working in prayer. If no physical healing, then spiritual healing, if no spiritual healing then mental healing, etc. Please don't ever underestimate the power of prayer.
Flash forward to a week later… our contact Peter began telling us that some of the people we prayed for at the hospital were well & at home. I began rejoicing!! He said the little boy with the swollen stomach was completely healed, with no more swelling whatsoever. He then told me we were on our way to visit the man that I prayed over. He said he had been up, walking around, talking like crazy, & was showing huge signs of improvement in his sickness!! Hallelujah!!!
We walked into his home & immediately he recognized us. He began to tell us that he was not completely healed, still felt weak, but that the sickness was gone & he could talk. Though he was laying down & relaxing, there was a peace about him, something that I did not see in his eyes before. His eyes were relaxed, & the fear had left. Yes Jesus, thank you.
A couple days later, we went back to the hospital to pray for people again. As we went room to room, we noticed that all of the patients were new patients, & all except one little boy had gone home. How cool!! Jesus you are amazing. I will never underestimate the power of prayer again. God is so good!!
We leave for swaziland this weekend, & I will be posting a video of our ministry site very soon. Thank you to all who are following my blogs!
