My team went to a university today to take part in presentations of various kingdom-minded ministries. We had been offered the chance to present, and were also hoping to connect with other organizations and contacts for the Adventures.
When we walked in, the first presenter was already speaking, so we tried to be quiet. However, as the woman in the back was greeting us and asking our names, I notice two things: she is American, and she was hold the cutest little baby boy (excepting my brothers obviously). I began to talk with her a little bit about the World Race as she asked for what our group was there.
I was correct in her accent, she is more specifically from Indiana, and the baby was hers. She got more excited as I talked about the World Race, explaining that the speaker was her husband, and she knew someone whose son who is on the Race.
We talked for a good half hour, about family and life and spreading the kingdom. We talked about her daughter and the work her husband was doing here in Indonesia. By the end of the conversation, she told be that she would make sure her husband talked to me about his connections before they left. She had to go feed the little boy, and when her husband was done speaking, she talked with him for a second, and he came over to talk to me. Turns out he is the director of a national CP organization working specifically with I reached people groups, and holds a significant amount of influence in the country. He was more than willing to take my information and send anything he could to me.
The moral of the story is when you see a cute baby, go say hi. You notice and adore the child, odds are the parents will talk to you about the family, which gives you an opportunity to make connections.
