Today (Thursday) we left for Medan. Traveling by bus from Jakarta to Medan takes at least 72 hours, barring any unforeseen circumstances, so we will be on the road until Sunday.

I have noticed on long rides I think about very random thoughts. Sometimes they connect, sometimes they don’t. So these next several days of blogs will be travel stories, God moments, and random thoughts all woven together. Also, it will be my train of thought. You have been warned.

Begin the travel story:
It took a while to find the bus line we needed after we left the hostel in Jakarta, but we found it with about 30 mins to spare. Then, as with most timings in Indonesia, we left the bus station late, around 13:45. As the gentlemen were packing boxes and luggage into our bus, Joanna said, “I think we about to be on the real struggle bus.” …

Keeping your mouth shut when you are full of negativity isn’t enough. You actually have to be brave enough to open it again, to speak life and positivity into people.

…We stopped for dinner around 19:00. My team ate sate ayam (“sahtay ahyahm”, smoked chicken) and rice. The chicken is put on skewers and laid over coals, smoked, and sauce is put over it. Today’s sauce was of the peanut variety. The rice is just rice, but with the chicken and sauce it is amazing!!

Apparently, our bus had some issues, so we were at the stop for a couple hours. I had enough to time to write a blog, enter some answers to journey markers, and listen to some of my audio bible. We also met someone by the name of Tree. We are pretty sure he had mixed motives of talking with us, but we had fun conversations anyway. He is 35. He was a lot of fun, and also got us bottled water while we were waiting…

…It is now 22:56, and we are finally leaving the stop. Next we ride a ferry to Sumatra Island, then resume our drive to Medan.

This story of travel is to be continued tomorrow…
