So as Team PP does Unsung Heroes ministry (UH), my goal is to post a blog each day of what we did, and at least one God-sighting for the day. This will help you all understand what UH is, and will also allow me to brag on the Father of all that exists.

We have been traveling for the last day. Yesterday, we traveled from debrief in Vung Tau, Vietnam, to Ho Chi Minh City. We flew from there to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and then into Jakarta, Indonesia. We arrived around 23:00 Monday, customs and getting taksis took a while, and we arrived at our hostel at 02:00 Tuesday. We talked long enough to decide we were going to meet at 09:30 after breakfast, and finally slept.

Now before I launch into this part of today’s story, let me just say that God is awesome and all-powerful. He knows what we need before we ask. This is an excellent example of what he can do when you trust him, and don’t worry about what you will eat and drink, or where you will sleep. Now for the God-sighting…

After sleeping for a few hours, we got up for breakfast and our team meeting at 09:30. We decided to do some individual time with God, and pack up to find a cheaper place to stay the next night, as we couldn’t afford this place on our daily budget. Our general schedule of the day was to go to a coffee shop for lunch with our stuff and look at everything we needed to do, and start to find contacts.

I was sitting in my bed about an hour later, and Denise came up to our room, and started talking to Hilary. I heard “you’re fine” so I assumed something had happened and leaned out of my bunk to look. Jessica, Hilary, and Denise were all smiling, and tears were in their eyes. Denise began explaining.

She and Joanna were sitting doing Bible study, her with her Bible, and Joanna on her computer. Denise had wanted to do her Bible study upstairs, but felt God leading her to stay in the lobby. Joanna was already sitting there, and felt led to talk to the gentleman sitting behind the front desk, but was waiting until she was done with her study.

While they were sitting there, the guy came over to them and asked if they were missionaries. Joanna began explaining what the World Race was, and how UH worked. He then explained that he was the owner of the hostel, a Christian, and had studied in Nebraska. He goes to the largest Protestant church in Indonesia, and knew someone we could talk to at the church about ministry contacts. Obviously, getting those contacts would be extremely help to us. God wasn’t done.

Joanna told him about our budget restrictions on lodging and food. He said he could work with us, and the kitchen was ours to cook meals so we didn’t need to go out every night. We could stay as long as we needed as well.

This all happened from 10:30 to 11:30. Having established we did not need to leave the hostel, instead of packing, we convened in the lobby at 12:00 to change our plan. We started talking about how much to allot for lodging, food, and transportation out of our $10-per-day-per-person budget. Our team was good with walking around the city, so we didn’t need much, if anything for transportation. We were thinking about $4 per person for lodging, and asked Steven, (our hostel owner) if what would be enough. He immediately replied, “I could do $2 each night if you want.” We all stared at him for a second. Then the general comments were “Are you serious?”, “Shut up.”, and “For real?”. We couldn’t believe it. That price would include breakfasts, so we could even work with less food budget. We now had lodging for the next few days, food options for that time, a solid contact with which to meet, and the possibility of several more contacts.

Mind you, this all happened in a total of 2 hours. That’s how God works when you let him do the leading and talking.

We will definitely keep posting about what else He does!! Nothing is impossible with God!
