Romania was been a month of challenges, growth, and change. I have worked with a ministry with which I’m not comfortable, I have lived with all of my squad in one house, and I have dealt with a couple God-prompted situations.
First off, my ministry was street evangelism, with a project called 9000 Souls. This project focuses on bold evangelism, and intentional discipleship of believers and non-believers. My team’s job was to evangelize on the streets, helping to promote the project, and helping to identify (through prayerful consideration) who should be asked to join discipleship small groups. Evangelism is not something with which I am comfortable. Boldly walking up to someone and asking them if they know who Jesus is and what he did for them takes a lot of courage. Because of this ministry alone, it’s been a hard month. I have learned that God is not calling me to be the “in your face” evangelist, he is asking me to know the information of the gospel, and build relationships through discipleship before that person is a Christian.
Another challenge for me was living in a 5-bedroom mission house with 21 other people. Throughout the month this posed problems in keeping things clean, cooking, sleeping patterns, and interactions. Being an introvert, this is little to no space where there are absolutely no people, and I actually could not find sufficient rest one day, because there were people everywhere. I have been forced to work through tight community, and have chosen to take part in the challenge, although I can honestly say it’s been an enormous struggle.
More recently God has prompted growth in personal ways and presented other challenges, such as coordinating squad worship every ministry morning, and prompting me to begin getting up regularly at an earlier hour. Those personal promptings have been much smaller than the other challenges, but they have still added into the struggles.
Overall, it has been an incredible month of growth! I cannot see where God takes me in Macedonia!
