My team has recently been talking a lot about prayer, spiritual strongholds, and the spiritual realm in general. These conversations have triggered thoughts in my mind about how much I actually know about the spirit realm and the powers involved there. So I asked our squad mentors to send me some verses that would be a great starting point to study this subject. With all of the thoughts swirling, I wanted to start with the Biblical truths before stepping into other books. That way I have the truth to compare with the thoughts of other humans.

Here are some of the truth I have learned specifically about God’s Children:
1 John 4:1-6 – We are little children of God, he is in us, we have overcome false spirits, and we must test every spirit to determine whether it is from God or otherwise.
Ephesians 6:10-20 – we wrestle again spiritual forces not physical/material things, I should always be using the shield of faith, and I need to be alert and persevere in my fights.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 – we are human but we get to fight with God’s power and weapons to destroy strongholds, we have to learn to obey Christ as we fight against demons.
1 Pere 5:8-9 – be alert and pay attention, we can stand against the devil, we are not alone because our brothers and sisters are also fighting with us
Isaiah 54:17 – I can stand against any judgment that comes against me
Luke 10:17-20 – we have been sent out and given authority over all the powers of the enemy, and the reason for this is that we are going to heaven!!
Matthew 18:18-20 – we have the power to say something and have it be so in heaven and earth

All of these verses feed together to show us that we have a power against which nothing can stand, and that power is through the Father in us! This power and authority gives us control over both physical and spiritual things, and where two or more are gathered (Matthew 18:20), Jesus is there too, and the Father will do what is asked.

Now there are always more layers that first meet the eye, but I want to address a different thought. If we have all this power and strength to stand against evil in the spiritual realm and the physical world, why don’t we use it?

I’m always afraid to put my power in effect because I’m afraid that it won’t happen, or that people will think I’m crazy, or that they will laugh, or… so many other things. However, everyone of these excuses are just ways to talk me out of using debilitating power to cripple the enemy.

So ask yourself, “why do I not use God’s powerful weapons, instead of my own?” I’m still trying to figure that out for me, but I’m taking a step of faith. Use the power.
