Colossians 3:17
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Paul repeats “everything” in three different ways: “whatever you do”, “in word or deed”, “everything.” Usually when something, is repeated three times, the person is trying to make an important point. Here Paul is emphasizing the importance of all words and actions in his statement.
For me, the importance here is that anything I do or say should be done for the glory of Lord Jesus. Nothing I do should be below his level. If I’m not comfortable doing something in the name of Lord Jesus, I probably shouldn’t be doing it.
I am human. My flesh side takes ground at times, and I do and say what I would consider to not follow Christ’s example. However, I would hope that my conscience, the Holy Spirit and/or a loving friend would point those things out to me. Only if I know I do or say them can I actually pray and allow God to show me how to fix my life to align with His Word.
