“Americanos, Americanos,” we are yelled after everywhere we go. I feel like a complete celebrity. Welcome to the Dominican Republic!

We arrived Friday evening after a 17-hour travel day to San Juan.  We knew we would be staying in a house with 3 other teams, but we really didn’t know what that meant. Until we rolled up to this around 11pm…

Our house in San Juan

Can I just tell you how blessed we feel to have this house? There is a full kitchen and even a “washer/dryer.” (Nothing like those front loaders at home, but definitely a step above hand washing!)

We get to sleep on real beds…

Sit on real toilets…

(Ok, I spared you a picture of the bathroom, but really we can’t flush our toilet paper. For real, I’m just grateful for the PAPER in general!)

Have running water (SOMEWHAT)! Let’s just say, bucket showers are not a thing of the past…

And we are only a 10 minute walk to the market from our house…

View from our balcony

Backyard and patio…complete with hammocks

I tell you this with hesitation, because I know most of you were really hoping I was roughing it this month. There will be plenty of time for that! For now, we are enjoying the ways the Lord has blessed us physically 🙂

Aside from our MTV Cribs worthy house, things have been going well in San Juan. We met our hosts, Miguel, Kristen and their two daughters, Samantha and Nicole. They are from the United States and have been really great at making us feel at home. (They fed us mac n’ cheese and brownies our first night. They won my heart!) We began our array of ministries with them this week and are still seeing how we will be used this month.

From teaching English to home visits to Vacation Bible School to farming (yes, you read that correctly)… I can’t wait to share with you all the details of what ministries we have been doing!
