Don't put God in a box. (I believe this was said one of the first days of training camp.)
Me: Of course not. I would never do that.
DO NOT PUT GOD IN A BOX.
Me: These poor people that keep doing that. It's just so sad.
SARAH SHIRLEN, DO NOT PUT ME IN A BOX.
You mean God, You were referring to me this whole time? Well, don't I feel foolish. OF COURSE HE WAS!
It wasn’t a harsh moment. Thankfully, God used a HUGE outpouring of His grace and a subtle break of my will this past week to make me realize that I WAS PUTTING HIM IN A BOX.
For me, it was never a matter of what God could do. He is Almighty, All-knowing, All-Powerful. He is my Creator and Sustainer! I know God can do anything!
The issue came down to what God would do. I defined what God WOULD do by what I thought He would and should do. See, God was getting defined on "Sarah terms" and slowly but surely I had, unbeknownst to myself, built Him a tiny little box. And I was completely comfortable with Him being in it.
As He likes to do, God busted that box wide open this past week, ultimately reavealing a lack of faith on my part. He was once again faithful to remove the blinders that I so willingly wear.
Can I just say that I'm ECSTATIC that He did? I truly desire to see God for who He says He is in Scripture and not for who I wish He was or who I make Him out to be. He is SO MUCH BIGGER than I can fathom!
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher thatn your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9
