This past week I turned 24. This birthday was different because it was the first week of my 11-month journey of the World Race. 8,000 miles away from home with people I have only known for a few months, this was definitely not a normal birthday.
Instead of having a party with friends and family, I spent the morning at an old age home talking with residents about their life, children and faith. Happy Birthday sung by waiters, was traded for a room full of people singing Happy Birthday and showering me with hugs, kisses and encouraging words.
One man named Charles, gave me a verse.
Psalm 91
He who dwells in the Shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my Fortress
My God, in whom I trust.”
“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
God will be here every step of the way, protecting me and guiding me as I continue this journey.
