So a little bit about me… I graduated from Penn State in the spring of last year (2014), with a degree in Geography. I also collected a few minors including International Studies, Environmental Inquiry and Science, Society and the Environment in Africa. I have always been passionate about social justice and want to use my education and faith to make a difference in someone’s life. Since graduating, I have moved back home and have a part time job at a nearby clothing store.
I decided to participate in this trip for several reasons. The first, I am tired of letting my faith take a back seat. I want to start being vocal and take a stand for those who need help. Over the years my faith in God has been at a simmer but I’m ready to start a fire. Second, as a geographer and traveler, I have a desire to see the diverse and beautiful world God created and what better way to see God’s creation than to serve his creation. Finally, I want to go on this trip because I have the freedom to go. By going I will not sacrifice a job, education or family. This is an opportunity to follow God’s path for me and I believe it has led me to this trip.
Now that the serious stuff is out of the way…
Fun Fact #1: I am an avid cat lover! They are the funniest animals I’ve ever had the pleasure to interact with. (You would understand if you met my cats Larry and Moe)
Fun Fact #2: This is my go to “2 truths and a lie” fact. I have been to all 49 (I am writing this in North Dakota) of the continental US States (missing Hawaii). PS if we ever play that icebreaker, please forget this fact.
Fun Fact #3: I love music! Some would say I’m a bit of a music snob. I just say I have defined my tastes.
Fun Fact #4: I am a belcher. Not a burper. A belcher. Especially after a nice cold root beer of the Barq’s variety.
Fun Fact #5: I enjoy dry humor and “dad” humor.
Fun Fact# 6: I cannot spell (thank you spellcheck) and grammar is still a mystery. (A future apology for any grammatical or spelling mistakes on this blog)
Fun Fact #7: I love taking pictures of landscapes, derelict buildings and junk, but sometimes I get too caught up in a moment and forget to stop and take a picture.
Fun Fact # 8: In my junior year of high school, I closed the season with the highest batting average on my varsity softball team with .750. Although this seems impressive, it’s only because in my first game back from a broken finger I hit a double and immediately broke my arm sliding into second base.
