I am Sarah. I'm 23. I'm from Valdese, North Carolina, which is a small town with lots of sweet people and beautiful scenery. I just graduated from The University of North Carolina at Asheville with a degree in music. Currently, I work at David's Bridal as a wedding consultant with lots of beautiful, fun brides and their wedding parties.

A little bit about my spiritual journey:

As many in the South do, I grew up in a Christian home. I am particularly fortunate in that regard. My parents are not perfect, but they do try to be warm, kind, and gracious. They work hard to give their time and resources to others. I would say in high school I had a general understanding that being a Christian meant being a good person and following the rules and guidelines allotted by the church.

In college, the Lord graciously opened my eyes to what genuine faith could look like. Through bible studies and mentoring relationships (This is you, Stephanie Johnson and Christin Stone), I gradually started grasping the truths of the gospel and traded them for my legalism.

I could not be more thankful for the community he has blessed me with during college. ESPECIALLY my awesome friends and church community. Some are Christians and some are not, but they are all full of a passionate love for other people and I try learn from them everyday. My freshman year, I knew about three people who had come to UNCA from my high school and that was it. I was not rooming with any of them, though. I had prayed the summer before college that God would give me a roommate who I could be good friends with. God did. Not only did he give me Caitlin, my roommate, he gave me Rebecca and Leah, my suitemates. Our story is kind of a comical one. We all grew up in different denominations. We had very different ideas theologically (though, admittedly, mine were underdeveloped and vague, pretty much whatever I remembered from confirmation in middle school), and I was the only extrovert in the group, so I'm fairly certain I talked the three of them to death that first week of school. Somehow, somewhere, the Lord gave us a deep appreciation for each other and we started seeking Jesus earnestly together. We landed at the Baptist Student Union. The influence of this organization on my life is monumental. The amount of people I have met through BSU/BCM is amazing. People who really love and are seeking the Lord. I have been challenged and stretched. I have never been so amazed.

I want to pursue the World Race because I want to be intentional about hearing God and following Him. I want to daily remember that everyone is made in His image and He cares deeply about everyone, outside of their spirituality or sexual orientation or race or status in the world. I want to love like God loves.
