The Case of the Mysterious Pumpkin
Abba speaks to me via colors and shapes. I feel Jesus’ loving hand through colors, shapes, and angles. Five months ago at training camp, I got a picture of a pumpkin from the Lord. I felt like my mind had made it up. I was struggling to know if it was from the Lord or just my creative mind. Two of my dear friends told me that picture was for a later time and to pray about it. I questioned God, “Really, a pumpkin? Are ya sure God?” I held on to the pumpkin picture for a later time. We started off this week by doing prophetic art. I began to pray and opened my Prismacolors. The first thing Jesus put on my mind was the pumpkin. I drew the pumpkin and struggled with it again. Was this me or God? I haven’t seen a real pumpkin since I left America three months ago. I closed my eyes again and saw the word “joy” in pretty purple font. I grabbed my purple pencil and sketched “joy will come” next to the mystery pumpkin.
My team shared our prophetic artwork and prayed over the recipients of our work. One of my sweet Nepali friends shared that God gave him a picture of a tree. When I saw his tree, I knew I had definitely seen that tree before. I quickly grabbed my journal and opened to the same tree I drew during our debrief a few weeks ago. It could only be from God, because no one had seen my journal. As we began our walk I was still wrestling with my mystery pumpkin I had been thinking over for five months. We stopped for a local snack and a chat. My Nepali friend that drew the tree sat beside me and said I was the recipient of his prophetic tree. He reassured me that God was speaking to me. It might sound crazy to hold on to a pumpkin for five months, but time is in God’s hands. He told me that his tree was confirmation for my mystery pumpkin. After that I was super pumped to find my mystery pumpkin person. However, there are no pumpkins to be found in Nepal. Except for one.

Earlier that morning I was sitting in a coffee shop trying to apply for my visa to our next country. And I saw a sign for a Pumpkin Spice Latté. Could that be the mystery pumpkin? We prayed about it and many people on my team said we should go back to that coffee shop. So we did. We took up a few tables on their quaint patio and ordered coffee and pastries. As soon as we sat down I knew exactly who the pumpkin was for. I saw her that morning while filing for my visa. I knew I would be back to talk to her at some point, I just knew there was something special about her and her gorgeous dark eyes. I didn’t know I would be back so soon. After I ordered a Pumpkin Spice Latté, I asked God to tell me when to go inside and give the woman, with the gorgeous eyes, the pumpkin/joy artwork. A few minutes later, I felt a tug on my soul to put down my coffee and go inside. I took a deep breath, grabbed the pumpkin paper, and prayed this was from God. I asked God to please give me one more sign, because this seemed so crazy.
I walked up to the counter and told the lady I had a little something for her. She was preparing to leave her shift, so it was perfect time since she was off the clock. (God’s timing is so cool!) I told her I was praying this morning and He told me to draw a pumpkin. I told her I thought the mystery pumpkin was for her, because this coffee shop was the only place in Nepal that I’ve seen a pumpkin. She said, “oh, that pumpkin that I drew on that pumpkin spice latté sign?” Um! How cool! God confirmed yet again that she was the Cinderella for my mystery pumpkin. I handed her the artwork and explained why I wrote “joy will come” in purple and blue beside the pumpkin. She said that she needed joy, because the past five months had been very rough and filled with anxiety. We held hands and prayed. I prayed for peace and especially joy to overflow her healing heart. She was such a sweetheart. The man behind the counter chimed in that the past five months had been hard for him as well. We exchanged social media contacts and parted after a warm hug.
I went back to my table on the patio with a huge smile on my face. I couldn’t wait to share what God had done. I was sharing my encounter when my friend Miranda pointed out that God gave me the pumpkin five months ago. Exactly when the trials started for the coffee shop lady. God knew what He was doing five months ago. It took five months, four countries, and countless prayer to find the Cinderella for my mystery pumpkin. I love how God works! He knew the perfect timing for everything that played out that day.
P.S. With your help, I have $12,000+ in my fundraising account! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! I only need about $5,000 left before I’m fully funded.
Much Love, Sarah Amberley
