Wipeout tally for the Philippines

Wipeout #1:    As we were trying to ferociously shove 12 people on an already overly crowded train, I, standing in the back of our 12 person team, saw the “closing doors” warning light come on.  Seeing as my personal life motto is “leave no man behind (especially if it’s me)”, I threw my arms out to the side and shoved what was left of our team on the train. Unfortunately, I misplaced one of my feet and fell down the train hole, you know, that hole between the platform and the train. And when I say I “fell down it” I really mean one leg went down the hole while the rest of me fell spread eagle on my back onto the train for all to see. Meanwhile, poor Samantha got sandwiched in the doors when they closed on her.

Wipeout #2:    This one was less funny and more pathetic. After forgetting the tickets to the John Mayer concert we were going to, AmyD and I grabbed a taxi from the Mall of Asia to our hostel and then back to the Mall of Asia as fast as we could so we could still grab dinner before the show. Right as we pulled up to the mall, it started pouring rain. So naturally after exiting the taxi we ran through the rain to the entrance. However, being the fool that I am, I was wearing my crappy $2 flip-flops with zero traction and managed to slip, doing the splits and breaking my shoe, onto my butt while pretty much every Filippino in the Philippines simultaneously lets out a pathetic “awwwww”.

Wipeout closecall:     This one is probably my favorite. As we were building the house in the dump, someone asked me to pick up a 75lb bucket of cement and bring it from point A to point B. So I hiked up my sleeves, spit on my hands, picked up the bucket, and started fumbling my way to point B. As I was nearing the finish line, a naked kid popped out of nowhere and body slammed me! Which then caused a Charlie Chaplin-like half-stumble half-fall for about two feet before I managed to throw the bucket down and regain my footing. I thought for sure I was going to face plant into the bucket of cement.
