The first leg of our two part ministry here in Ukraine is coming to an end. We have had a ton of fun hanging around Lugansk but now we’re packing up our bags and heading to the backwoods of the Ukrainian wilderness for summer camp! Camp Dream sits just on the other side of the river from Russia and, soon enough, will be teaming with local teenagers and kids from nearby orphanages. Having spent many a summer working as a camp counselor, I’m pretty stoked. As excited as I am though, I will definitely miss Lugansk and all of the amazing people that I’ve gotten to hang out with this month.

Things we’ve done in Lugansk:

1) Walked around the beautiful city of Lugansk and took in all of the sites.

2) Tried to teach English classes. Turns out their English is way better than mine and I was actually given a lesson, by the students, on Gerund phrases (I still don’t really get it).

3) Recorded dialogues for said English classes.

4) Got treated to a night of food, Ukranian beer, and Russian billiards by the teachers who teach our English classes.

5) Had a barbeque and an ultimate frisbee tournament with another team staying nearby.

(We won of course.)

6) Ate at McDonalds… a lot.

7) Went to the Ukranian Philharmonic with some of our students.

8) Hung out at an orphanage and played frisbee with kids who don’t speak one word of English.

9) Went to a beer garden with our students.

10) Hosted a Mexican night for our teachers.

As you can probably tell from the pictures, we’ve had it pretty rough here in Lugansk, what with hot showers, box spring mattresses, and wifi, it’s a wonder we even made it through this month.

(Note: Actually, we’ve been living the good life; here on the World Race, it doesn’t get much better than that.)
