Whenever there is a large group of racers together for a long enough period of time the conversation inevitably turns to what we do in our “real lives”. We reminisce about our lives before the race as if it were ages ago. When it comes to my turn I usually say something along the lines of “I’m basically homeless.”
But today, on our day off, while hiking through the jungle to a beach inhabited by monkeys, I realized that this can no longer be said about my life.
If home is where the heart is, then let me kick off my shoes because baby, I’m there.
Though this trip is by no means easy or comfortable, my heart is here. It’s here with my ministry (less this month but I’m working on it) and with the people I have been thrust into this crazy life with. I have been blessed by a team who loves, loves each other, loves strangers, loves tough, loves without expectation.
Like a family.

So let me take the time now to finally introduce you to my team.

AmyD, our strong and fearless leader who’s always putting the team before herself.

Samara, who loves everything that has a heartbeat.

SarahB, whose laughter is nothing short of infectious and honesty is something to be learned from.

Kelsie, whose familiar humor and easy-going nature keeps me grounded.

Brian, the only man on a team of five girls, easily the most patient man I’ve ever met.

I wish I was more of a sentimental writer so you could better understand how blessed I am by these people, but I’m not. All I can say is that these five relative strangers whom I’ve only known for six weeks have quickly made their way into my heart as my family.
