Let me tell you about “Philippino time”… there is none. Our driver says that he is coming to pick us up at 9am, so we need to be ready to go by 8am and be willing to sit around until noon waiting for him.
Let me tell you about all of the houses I’ve been building… there are none. Our two teams have split up to go and build houses and for the last couple of days I’ve been doing a whole lot of watching and not a whole lot of building. Being white, I’m considered a guest and shouldn’t be working, being a woman, I’m considered incapable of doing the work. So I’ve been doing a lot of sitting around, watching people build houses, and wasting days of my life.
Before the World Race, I was a busy busy individual. And I loved it. The busier I was, the happier I was. I am not someone who likes to sit still. So of course that would be my first lesson on the race.
I am learning how to be patient and how to sit still and enjoy the moment without getting anxious, all in one agonizingly long week. But I’ve been telling myself that it’s good to learn, hopefully soon I’ll start to believe it.
(these pictures have nothing to do with this blog, I just wanted to show you some images of the Philippines)
