Sorry for the randomness of this blog. I will get the hang of it soon I hope. I just wanted to let everyone know what we’re up to this month so far. This blog is like a mixture of two days of writings. I haven’t gotten a hang of combining them yet, so some things are repeated.
We’re in Oceanview which is 45 minutes outside of Capetown. Doing mostly walking everywhere…and I mean EVERYWHERE!
My team is split up in houses and I’m in a house with Jamie, Laura, and LeAnna. Our hostess’ name is Frances and she has a daughter named Jesse (sp?), who is 6yo. The house is really nice! We have a shower and toilet, and the most amazing food! Jamie will probably posting pictures of our amazing food. Frances is so sweet and fun! She has a servant’s heart too, making our food and wanting to do our laundry for us. I’m just amazed by her example. So many blessings this month that have me thanking God for the ease of transition into the Race, as well as still preparing me for what is to come.
My team is working in a primary school with David and we will be doing sports in the afternoon but during the morning and early afternoon will be doing whatever they need in the classrooms.
School starts tomorrow, Wednesday, January 15th, and we will see all of the kids there then. Yesterday and today at the school we have been covering the books with plastic. Kind of like the plastic that we use for laminate stuff. We use it to cover the books like how we covered books with paper bags in elementary school to protect them. We also did a chalk outline to eventually paint on one of the school walls, a little girl blowing bubbles, and in the bubbles there will be numbers. It’s to help them see learning outside of the classroom. I think it will be fun to do the bubbles! I’m excited to begin working with the teachers in classrooms tomorrow. We’ll be split up by twos, starting in Grade R (like kindergarten) and Grades 1 and 2. We’ll see how that goes, learning a lot from just waiting to see what actually happens when it happens, haha.
We’re going to a soccer game this weekend! South Africa vs. Nigeria. One day, I’m not sure when, we’re going to Cape Point which is a beach that has penguins! I’m so excited to see them! David said they’re pretty friendly. I decided that I am going to use the monthly fun money to go shark diving with the rest of the group! I’m a bit nervous but excited at the same time. I don’t think that there’s going to be a lot to do in Swaziland and I want to obey God in going all out of my comfort zone. Our contact here (Bradley) has really imparted on me about trusting God in all things financial. That all things of this earth belong to Him, money and all, and that I need to grow in my faith in that He will take care of all things. And you should too, hopefully!
So as you can see, we are doing lots of ministry during the week, and some random fun time after working, like the beach today, and weekends to do crazy fun things.
School today was fun! We covered a lot of books and got to play with the kids during their 2 recess/lunch breaks. We also got to play sports with them after school! I played a funny version of basketball with four different girls (Candace, Georgia, Nesni, and Mikayla). So fun and I can’t wait to get to know them better and get to speak with them more.
All for now, loves! Hope everything is great back in America and other regions!
