God Speaks to Me. Woah hot topic. I can feel the tension already. But there it is I said it and I mean it. Someone once told me that God can only speaks to me through the Bible. When I heard those words it felt as if a knife had pierced my heart; because for me if that were true then this whole thing, my faith, and my testimony is a lie. The night on the floor of my apartment that I broke down, fell to the floor, and prayed to God to help me I didn’t have a Bible in front of me. So why? Why would I turn to God? What inside of me told me to cry out to God? Did my mind in its flesh do this on its own? Where does truth like that come from? How did I know that God was the answer? Did I tell me that? No, I can’t believe that. I can’t believe that I thought to do that on my own. I didn’t tell me that. God did. Later on down the road, after many prayers and cries out to the Lord I picked up the Bible, searching for some answers, for some truth, but again who told me to go to the Bible? Who gave me my faith? Who told me that the Bible is truth? God. If you listen to the statement above, “God only speaks through the Bible” the statement itself proclaims that God speaks. How does He speak through the Bible? We read it and He gives us understanding. HE gives us understanding. The Bible is the word of God. God knows what it means. God understands it more than we will ever understand it. Did He just give us this book and say, “There ya go hope you get it”. No He gives us the understanding. Ok now pressing forward. So we read the Bible and say we are just that smart and we understand it word for word. Do we just close it up brush off our hands and be done with it? Or do we apply it? We apply it to our lives because that is what He says to do in the Bible right? Well who tells us where it all fits in? Have you ever been out and about and a situation arises and suddenly you are reminded of a verse or a promise that God makes to us in His word? Is that you? Is that your flesh thinking up truth? In the Bible it says that we are all sinners. “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23. By nature we are not good. Our flesh is not good. Only God is good. “Why do you call me good, Jesus answered, No one is good except God alone.” Mark 10:18 Everything that is good comes from God. Everything in us that is good is from God. It is not us. It is God. This means that every thought that we have, every feeling, every desire, every act of love that we do that is good comes from God. Every time we think to give someone a compliment, every time we think to tell someone we appreciate them, every time we help someone out it is from God. That is how God shows us that He loves us. God is love. God is good. We are not good without God. So how do we know to do these things? How do we know when someone just needs a hug or a word of encouragement? Who tells us these things? God does. Whether we give Him the glory for it or not, whether we recognize it or not, it is He who does it.
