What do you do in Utah when it rains?

Wait 10 minutes.

Utah is America’s best-kept secret. Sunny skies in the spring and summer. Home to world-renowned Utah powder in the winter for incredible skiing (thanks to Lake Effect).  I wish there was a camera (that I could afford) that could capture the absolute breathtaking beauty of my home.

(Drive home from my brother’s house)

Many people would agree that the most beautiful places are those that are remote, difficult places to find, far away from anything else.  Ever since I learned they existed, I’ve dreamt of exploring Havasu Falls, the Amazon, Mount Everest, the Philippines, Madagascar, and hundreds of other places all over the globe.  Which is funny because I get a little anxious when I travel. The actual travel doesn’t bother me, but being away from home messes with me sometimes.

If I play my cards right… If I beat the high school kid traffic by my house, hit all green lights, not get pulled over, manage to not get stuck behind a snow plow, and catch the aerial tram right as it’s leaving, I can get from:

                         HERE                                       to                                                     HERE

In forty minutes.

For the past 4 seasons, I’ve had the pleasure of working at a world-class ski resort, Snowbird.  I also had the privilege to be a part of Snowbird during the record-breaking snowfall season 2010-2011 (783 inches and a few lifts stayed open until July 4)

And at the end of my workday or play day, I get to drive home.

I was at the top of Hidden Peak (11,000 ft) when I got the call from the World Race to tell me I was going to be traveling the world next year with 70 or so other crazies. I took one look around at the spectacular view and couldn’t handle the thought of not spending next winter on this mountain.

I’m realizing more and more every day that beauty is actually closer than I thought.

My nephew, Peter, is a miracle.
Sure, I might be missing his first steps while I’m gone but by the time I get back, he’ll be running. He is a little introverted though so maybe he’ll just be building a volcano in his room.

And the most amazing beauty I’ve seen in a long time… N Squad. My new family that I get to meet NEXT WEEK at Training Camp!

< A particularly special night with the homies.

I may be used to waking up to the gorgeous Wasatch Mountains but I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be waking up to new beauties, in 11 different countries with the most incredible, loving, supportive group of people I’ve ever met.

N Squad… Let’s party.
