The Lord has been teaching me a few things about His character over the last few months. I can tell you not every lesson has been conventional and many revelations come from looking at “every day” items and situations through Papa’s eyes.

During worship in Cape Town, South Africa, my shoes were off and I was singing praises to my Creator. Soon, the Lord spoke to me in a still, firm voice saying, “go in the other room by yourself and bring your sandals.”

What? Did I hear that right? Why do I need to bring my sandals to go pray and be with Him indoors? After a lot of back and forth in my head, I decided to be obedient and I left the room where everyone was and sat in the hallway.

“Okay, now what?” I stared at my shoes with complete ignorance. What was so special about these sandals? I began to ask God to reveal to me His purpose for this encounter, and this is what He said:

“Sarah, you are my sandals. You don’t move unless I move. Sometimes you don’t like being my sandals because all you focus on is the mud, rain, and dirt that I walk you through. You are constantly looking down at your circumstances, and you cannot see where I am going. Please trust that I am moving forward to places that will glorify Me. You are my child and I am excited to bring you with Me and share in my inheritance and promise of freedom. Remember that when I look at you, I see my Son. I don’t see the mud and circumstances below, but when I look down, I see Me in you and I am delighted.”

I can tell you these words rang through my bones. I can only pray that they help you understand—like they did for me—that our Father sees the big picture. He is only ever moving forward to places that will glorify Him and I am excited to be his sandals to move only where the Father is going and no other direction. I want to be led by Him, because I know He will lead me to green pastures. I am tired of focusing on the worldly things that bring me down, and I pray that His peace abounds, and you and I have the faith and perseverance to trust and move where Papa moves.
