I am sitting in a hammock right now overlooking the city of
Taytay. My team has met up with the eight other teams that comprise our squad
for a 4 day debrief with our coaches and leaders. They are providing us with worship sessions,
speaking, and counseling in order fill us back up in preparation to return to
the mission field. We are staying on the
site of a children’s home which is situated in a neighborhood filled with 5,000
people. These people live crammed into
tiny little shacks but I sense a peace and happiness about them which is hard
to come by in America. The Filipinos
that live here leave me feeling truly humbled in their love for Americans. When I walk down the street, the cars pause
to honk and wave, the children all desire hugs and the adults want to know my
name and age and ask me to photograph their children. As I walk away I hear them whisper “I love
you” in voices filled with awe. I wish I
had more time here to spend connecting with these people and recognize that I
will leave a piece of my heart here when I leave.

You are probably wondering why I am writing you from the
Philippines when I was expected to be in Malaysia this month. We ended up getting re-routed because many of
our Malaysian contacts fell through, so after traveling for over 24 hours on 2
different buses, 3 flights, layovers in both Singapore and Malaysia, and
limited sleep, we have arrived. I am
confident that God has a huge purpose in bringing us here and I am excited to
watch that play out in the upcoming weeks.

We leave tonight on a 6 hour bus ride which will take us to
the city of Baguio (Bag-e-o) where we will begin our ministry. This month we will be working with woman and
children caught up in human trafficking. We will have the opportunity to provide counseling and build
relationships, participate in late night ministry in the bars and on the
streets, teach English, and work in the health clinic where the girls are
required to show up once a week for medical testing.

These next four weeks will be heart wrenching and I ask for
your prayers that I would be filled with wisdom and love in the way that I
approach these wounded souls
.
