I have now been in Malaysia for two weeks and am still processing through the things I am learning and experiencing so for now, I just want to talk about the things I love about this unique country.

The local coffee here is delicious. It is made with at least 1/3 cup of sweetened condensed milk which means it is filled with more calories than I even want to think about but believe me, it’s worth it. The mixing technique is a long pour between cups that stretches the milk and makes it frothy on top. It is served in a plastic bag with a string attached for “to go” orders which makes it super fun to carry around on my wrist. The best part is it only costs 45 cents (USD).

It is perfectly acceptable to eat food with our fingers here which is incredibly messy but very enjoyable. We ate Indian food off a banana leaf the other day. The food was good, but plentiful, and it is considered rude to leave any of it on our plates. I was full for the entire day!

Most of the toilets here are “squattie potties” which is basically not much more than a hole in the ground. It is usually an adventure using the restroom and this adventure more often than not, does not include toilet paper. In the rare times we have use of a modern toilet, (other than in our hotel room where we have been getting spoiled,) we must manually flush it by pouring buckets of water down the bowl.
I have been craving doughnuts
and they are hard to come by in Malaysia so I prayed one day for God to provide one for me. A couple hours later Bek informed me that there was a doughnut shop in the mall we were at. I ran downstairs in a flurry of excitement and discovered the greatest shop I have ever seen. These doughnuts were gourmet and had double, even triple layers of chocolate! I LOVE that God cares about the little things.

Many of the food choices here are uh … interesting. Chicken feet are considered a delicacy and I had to try it just to say I did. It was rubbery and the texture of it was far from pleasant.
