I have really been struggling with what to write. I feel as though my faith, and my life actually, has come to a lull. This is not a time of difficult struggle or excitement for me. It is important to not become content or complacent in this plateau. When I was pondering about what to write, I thought about dance. I had a performance exam in my dance class today, so I have been dancing way more than usual. How can my dance class relate to my spiritual life? Well, living life is like dancing with God.
For the purpose of this metaphor, God dances the guy part (THE LEAD), and we, the individuals in a relationship with Christ, are dancing the girl part. The first part of any dance is having a strong frame. The girl must lean on the guy so much that if he wasn’t there, she would fall over. We have to lean on God like that, but most of the time, we think that we are pretty stable on our own two feet. Then, the physical connection is important in order for the girl to know what move to do next. The physical connection comes from pressure from the hands and the lead’s hand on the girl’s back. Since we cannot physically touch God, our connection comes through prayer and spending time with Him and in His word.
Dancing the girl part means that we never know what is going to happen next. The lead has a plan. He has to know what he is doing. It is his job to know which moves to do and when. He has to initiate each move. God is like that. He has a plan, and we don’t know it. IT IS NOT OUR JOB TO DECIDE WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT. We are not in control. We have to have faith that God knows what He is doing. Who are we to think that we know better than God. The Lord will lead you into a 3 point turn and flip your life around, but all in His timing. And it will be Perfect. He will take care of you. Matthew 6 talks about how the Lord cares for the birds of the air, how much more does He care for us. Think about it this way, if we knew the exact order of the dance moves for every song, dancing wouldn’t be fun. The fun is having complete trust in your lead that you don’t know what’s coming next. Even if you don’t know a certain dance move, he does. He knows it well enough to lead you through it. If we knew everything that was going to happen in our lives, we wouldn’t want God. Where would the passion, the struggle, the pain, and the triumph come from? There is beauty in the struggle, even in the lulls, but we can’t try to take over the lead’s job. He’s got it.
In those stages of life when you feel like you’re in a rut, like doing the same basic step over and over again. Don’t grow bored or complacent. Push into the Lord even more, don’t become weak. Lean into that frame, into the Lord. Every day is like a new song, a new opportunity to let Him twirl me around and use me for His will. Keep leanin’ my friends.
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up“
Galatians 6:9
