Previous entries-Day 1
Day 2-Tuesday

Elizabeth and I went back to the hospital this morning to visit with the patients we’d seen the day before. The woman smiled as soon as she saw us enter the doorway. We sat down with her and learned that she had finally been able to go to the bathroom. God answered our prayers! You could tell that she was very relieved not to have another surgery. She will be in the hospital for 15 more days recovering.

Elizabeth read to her from a Spanish Bible we found back at the house. I sat on the bed behind her praying until I noticed that the woman on the far side of the room was grimacing in pain. She looked like she was suffering a great deal. I went over to her and held her hand and started praying softly. She must of thought it was strange, a white girl holding her hand and speaking in a foreign language. At the end of my prayer I said “Amen” and she responded back with “Amen”, I felt better knowing she knew that I was praying. Immediately afterwards a nurse came in, pulled down her blanket and started un-bandaging her wound. Every slight touch caused the women in the bed great pain. She squeezed my hand when it hurt very badly. It took a long time for the nurse to remove the gauze that was soaked in blood, to clean the wound and put on new gauze. The wound looked horrible. Her entire lower stomach had been sewn shut. It looked extremely painful. I prayed over her the entire time the nurse was touching/hurting her. When she left I softly ran my hand through her hair as if she was a baby needing comfort. She soon drifted off to sleep. I was relieved. It is hard watching someone suffer, knowing you can do nothing to take away their pain.

We go back tomorrow.
