A little info before my story…

Thailand is beautiful!

Koh Samed

Sarah and I on beach in Thailand

We flew into

Bangkok

on August 28th and spent the last 5 days on an island called

KohSamet

.

Selena and Chuck Day as well as Carol and Scott Pitts were there to debrief us as a team and individually.

I am so thankful for their willingness to mentor us.

These 2 couples have devoted a lot of time praying over our teams and couching us through the entire world race experience.

This morning (September 2nd) we packed up our bags and got back on the boat for Bangkok.

We will be staying at the YWAM base until September 5th.

Tomorrow is our 2nd race day and on the 4th we’ll be touring some temples.

Team Concrete and

Zion

will be working together this month on an island called Phuket

.

We will be working with an organization called the SHE program. The SHE program helps to bring prostitutes out of the bars and into a safe environment. They are then able to help in small businesses such as a jewelry and card making.

I’ll write more about that in the next week.

Today (September 2nd) was the first time I really had a problem with the language barrier.

It’s not like Africa where many know English as a second language.

I went to a local McDonalds (yes they are here as well as KFC and 7 elevens).

To order I held up my finger to get the number one combo meal.

The girl behind the register made a hand gesture for a drink.

I told her coke and she got it and put it on a tray.

As I waited for the rest of my order, I made a hand gesture for carry out. She looked at me funny, put my coke in a plastic bag, handed it to me and motioned for me to go away.

So I moved away with no food and a confused look on my face.

Ha ha!

Thankfully another worker came up after noticing this odd exchange and helped me order.

PS- The Thai food here is amazing and I’ve eaten it every day since we’ve come to Thailand.

I thought I’d better put that in after my McDonald’s story.
