The other night Lauren and I were in charge of spending the night with 3 babies. We were told that they would get up every four hours for feeding, check their diapers, and then they’ll go back to bed. Lauren and I thought, ‘Peace of cake!’ She brought over her laptop to get caught up on some stuff and I brought a book I was looking forward to reading. Babies are so easy to take care of. Babies stick to their schedules. NOT!

To all you mothers out there- you are amazing!

Our three little ones cried and cried and cried. Lauren and I spent the night feeding, changing diapers, bouncing babies, rubbing backs, and rocking cribs. Late in the night when finally the babies were asleep we settled down wearily in our beds beside them to sleep. But it was like the babies knew we were lying down and started fussing immediately. At one point Lauren and I were calming babies in their cribs and we started giggling. ‘Did you ever think you’d be doing this on the world race?’ Definitely not!

And while I never thought ministry would look like this, I think it’s cool that we get to do it. We were able to give the girls that normally take care of these little ones the night off and I’m sure they needed it. There are babies and toddlers here that weren’t wanted by their parents or relatives and OMF’s staff and volunteers take care of these sweet little ones. What a blessing they are to this community!
And to all you Moms out there- what a blessing you are to us.
