Today we made it to Palenque and we met our contact person, Fransico. From the town of Palenque, Fransico took us to his hometown called Jerusalen. We went up beautiful roads through very high lush mountains. During that time it just seemed so peaceful and quiet. It was a wonderful feeling to look at God’s creation as we drove in a part of Mexico that I have never been to. The van has been holding up pretty well considering it is weighed down with 6 people and all of our luggage up steep, steep mountains. Keep praying that this our van stays in good condition.

When we got to his hometown on top of the mountain he introduced us to his Pastor Samuel. He has the same name as my Pastor in Hoboken, New Jersey. Pastor Samuel brought us into his home and gave us their beds where we will sleep tonight and for the next 2 weeks. We also met his sweet wife and children. They cleaned the whole house to greet us. We learned that most of the people that live in Jerusalen speak a language called Chol. I had been preparing myself to speak more Spanish. I found out that when we do our ministry, Fransico will speak to the people in Chol and translate to Miguel in Spanish, and then I will try my best to translate in English to the group. WOW….pray for me!

We then went to Pastor Samuel’s church and he had prepared a delicious lunch for us. He made chicken soup with potatoes, rice and tortillas. When we got into the church, a table was set up for us with flowers and music playing. It really touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. They have quite the servant’s heart. I long for a heart like theirs.

Today we rest a little and then tomorrow and for 2 weeks we will work with Pastor Samuel ministering to the indigenous people, many Mayans. I am looking forward to showing God’s love to the people that live by the ruins.
