When I first got the call on my heart to this 11 month World Race Missions Trip I must admit that I really didn’t want to go. I came across this trip as a result of looking for a short term mission trip for my church to participate. In my mind I was thinking of a missions trip for 5 days or 10 days max. But God really had a different plan for the year 2006, one that I was totally not expecting.
I felt God really nudging me to “go” however, I tried to deny it. This trip seemed way to extreme for me with backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, the same clothes for a year, and washing them by hand!! I am not the “roughin it” type girl at all. In fact, camping is just not a vacation I would choose…more like a 5 star hotel. But I filled out the Adventures in Missions application for the trip anyway…grudgingly I might add. A few weeks later I had an interview and a few weeks after that I was called and invited to particiapte in the World Race! Deep down I was really hoping that God would close this door and give me something else for the next year that wasn’t quite as radical, but He opened the door instead to the World. I made a deal with God and told Him that if He opened the door for me to this World Race that I would follow Him and GO!
So, here I am 31 years old moving out of our apartment, putting all our belongings in storage, giving up our car, giving up my job, and living with my parents for 2 weeks before I leave to work for the Lord full-time. I must say, my husband, Cruz is a saint. Here he is fighting a war in Iraq and when we both get home around the same time we will be homeless and carless. He has tremendously supported me from day one concerning this missions trip. He said “if the Lord called you to do this than you have to Go and we have to trust He’ll take care of us when we both get back to the states.” Do I have a great supportive husband or what?…even thousands of miles apart from each other.
All I know is that when we give it all up for the Lord, He will bless us and others in ways we can’t even fathom.
