Greetings from Bugiri, Uganda!
I just wanted to post a quick update and give you a little glimpse as to what our first week in Uganda has looked like!
Our first few days in Uganda were spent in an amazing place called Jinja, where our whole squad set up camp just yards from the Nile River. Talk about breathtaking. Our squad was able to bungee jump over the Nile River, and white water raft the Nile River if we wanted to.
I decided to do both, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of incredible. I have never done anything like that before, but it was wild and I would definitely do it again. I wish I could upload some pictures, but I promise they will come!
Bungee jumping went smoothly, what a rush free falling over 100 feet down to the Nile. Rafting was incredible, but also gave me a sweet battle wound. Our very first rapid, my paddle got knocked out of my hand and into my face, straight across the nose. This of course brought on the inevitable river of blood from my nose, which made it look much worse than it was. But, thankfully, my nose wasn't broken, just a small cut across the top and two black eyes. Basically, I look like a perpetual football player with streaks under my eyes.
All in all, the day was amazing. Seeing the sheer raw, wild power in the water was breathtaking. It was a small glimpse for me into the wild heart of God. A picture to me of His power, His control. His wild playfulness. And it was so beautiful.
It was a blessing to spend those two days together as a squad, having a little adventure before heading off to our respective communities for the month.
Now we are set up in Bugiri, Uganda, which is on the eastern side of Uganda, close to the Kenyan boarder. It has been an interesting transition for us as a team, going from the quiet countryside to a bustling, noisy city. It's warmer here as well, so we are all adjusting. It still makes me laugh every time I hear a certain cow mooing outside of our door (which is by the street), because it literally sounds like a dinasour. You never knew cows could sound like dinosaurs did you? Well, you learn something new every day.
This will be a busy ministry month, but I am excited for it. Please keep our entire squad in your prayers, the first night in, we faced heavy spiritual warfare. It really hit me that first night, when we were up as a team until about 1am praying and talking through things, that this is real.
Satan is pissed off that we are here, and that we are here to spread God's love and change this place with that love. To leave God's fingerprint here, and share the gospel. And we have felt the effects of those attacks. It's heavy. It's a different spiritual climate here.
Next week I'll share a blog in more depth about spiritual warfare, but for now, keep us in your prayers. We will defeat Satan in this place. In small ways, and big ways. But this is real, and we need to be surrounded by your prayers, because we can't do it on our own.
Thank you so much for your prayers and support, keep an eye out for more blogs to come!
