THANKSGIVING DAY
Today is Thanksgiving in the United States. Today Macy’s holds the nation’s attention for a morning of floats, balloons, song and dance. Today families gather together. Today rivals meet on the football field. Today is the day of potlucks. Today much too much food is consumed. Today is a day to reflect on all our blessings and give thanks.
For Christians, we are commanded to give thanks each and every day. Any moment or day is an appropriate time to thank the Gracious Lord Almighty for His blessing. There are moments that I find myself almost unable to find something positive because my mind is consumed with the frustrating, negative or sad thing that has or is happening. I have consciously worked hard to refocus my mind. Now, I acknowledge the frustrating, negative or sad things but don’t allow them to overwhelm my thoughts or feelings. God has worked in my heart and consequently modified my thoughts and words to be more positive, more grateful and thus more blessed.

So today I am giving thanks. I am sad that I’m missing the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but so thankful that I am in the Philippines for ministry. I am uncertain about my future, but so thankful that I have a God who has perfect plans. I am anxious about money, but so thankful for my work ethic and determination. I am blessed beyond comprehension. Despite setbacks, fears, frustrations and doubt I know that I have more than I will ever need. Just think how truly blessed we all are: if we can see abundance through our negativity, how much greater are the gifts from God.
“Let the world of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to god the father through him.”
