As I leaned on the railing and thanked God for the day and the most wonderful sunset, I heard my name being called. A few of the other racers noticed familiar accents in some other viewers and asked, ” where are you from?”. Turns out they were from america…Alabama to be exact! A whole group of travelers where visiting from Mountain Brooke. They were a church group coming on a summer mission trip. One of the girls was wearing a mountain Brooke cheerleading jacket. I said, ” oh! I was a cheerleader, but for Hoover,” with a big smile. Her mom asked when I graduated; her tone insinuated she expected to know some other students in my grade…. Until I said 2003 and revealed my age. She gasped and laughed. Then the cheerleader started a question with, ” by any chance do you know..” which is normally asked by small children and teens around the world wanting to know if I am friendly with Obama, Beyonce, or the last American missionary who visited the area. But this girl asked if I knew Shane _____ ( I cant remember his las name now) and I did! He was my 10th grade IB history teacher and cheerleading coach. Now he teaches and coaches at Mountain Brooke High School and instructs her. Im serious- I met a girl during sunset in Cape Town, South Africa who is from not only my home state, but my city and we have a shared acquaintance!
