I’m not talking about all the men holding hands here in India.  I mean real hormones: adrenaline, serotonin, and testosterone.  I’m talking about  feelings, food and film.

Tonight we were invited to watch Top Gun with our contacts.  I was sick for the last movie night, so I didn’t attend.  Tonight however, I was feeling up to it…especially at the mention of a movie with Tom Cruise, shirtless, playing beach volleyball.

Before movie night, myself and two others had planned to get street food for dinner.  Austin showed up on time and said, “I’m ready and if you hurry, I have a surprise.”  So, I was thinking, maybe there would be hot sauce or coffee in my future.  Not so.  I walked downstairs and there sat Eric’s Honda Hero.  Smiles!  “What?!  For real,” I exclaimed.  Yes, it was real.  Eric was letting Austin take the motorcycle out for a spin tonight, and Austin was letting me ride.–Adrenaline
I love motorcycles. The wind in your hair.  The reve of the engine.  The feeling of pure freedom when riding on the back.  This was just the surprise I needed tonight.  We took some kids from the orphanage to the beach today.  The children are special needs, mostly with physical disabilities, and it was hot today.  While I’m learning that there are aspects of this month’s ministry I really do enjoy, taking these children on an outting is not top of my list.  Though it ws draining, the kids loved it.  The beach offers sand and waves in which to play and made the kids grin from ear to ear.
So, as I said, I was tired this afternoon and was just going to grab food and watch some streaming tv for the evening.  But–then I got invited to watch a great movie; then I got a ride on a motorcyle; then I ate delicious and cheap street food.  Austin and I rode the bike down to this hot spot on the corner of the bypass and parked.  We walked down the street a ways to order chappatti from a little store before heading back to the “hot spot” for dosas and “white sauce.”  The white sauce that accompanies any form of fried dough around here is super!  It would be awesome on cheese burgers at home! The place was crowded so we stood in the middle of the restaurant, sharing plates, devouring chappattis and licking up white sauce.  It was a great meal.–Serotonin

Right after dinner I delivered some food to friends then walked over to Eric and Tisra’s for movie night.  Top Gun is a classic!  Just the music intro is enough to get your foot tapping and your heart pumping.  I hadn’t seen the movie in a long time, and I’ve already been in and separated from the military; yet, something about that Maverick and Goose that makes me wish I’d joined the Navy! —Testosterone
Top Gun Movie Famous

The message of all this was not lost on me.  God blessed me with things that make me smile because I sacrificed to make others smile.  God hasn’t forgotten me.  He knows just what I need when I need a smile and just the right ingredients to energize my spirit:  motorcyles, good food and Tom Cruise 😉

Though this post isn’t focused on ministry, it still connects.  God knows me better than anyone in the world.  He knows that its the little things in my life that bring me unmeasurable joy.  He knows the forgotten children at Sarah’s Covenant Homes just as he knows me.  They have not been misplaced or ignored by God.  They can rest assured that He will provide for them the very things that make them smile, no matter how big or how small.  For example, today during our beach trip, different children liked and disliked different parts better than others.  One of the children loved the kissing noises someone was making; another stuck her face in the open window to feel the wind blowing against it; and another loved having wet sand globs dropped on her legs…Each of us is unique; yet God has no problem maintaining intimate knowledge and love of everyone.
