The day I found out I was appointed to be the squad’s safety coordinator, I freaked out. Safety?! Me? Have you seen the things I’ve done or wanted to do while I’ve travelled around the world? And looking after 51 people? I know I have travelled quite a bit but this isn’t the role for me. Logistics maybe, but safety, no thanks.
Don’t get me wrong, I believe it is such a privilege to have a leadership role and I have had lots of experience being a leader, but as a safety coordinator? I’m someone that loves taking risks, travelling on my own, eating street food and meeting strangers. Being in a role where I needed to keep 50 people safe and be an example to them? This really wasn’t an area that I felt comfortable or gifted in.

The whole month after receiving the position, I was stressing out about it. Why did God give me this task? He knows I’m good at planning and budgeting when I travel, but I’ve never been a completely safe person. I’m not good at this and I didn’t want it.
God happened to be speaking to me through a few people and one person mentioned, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, ‘But he said to me, “My grace is made sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.’ Hearing this verse made me understand God’s purpose in giving me this role.

Even though I felt inadequate or unskilled in this role as the safety coordinator, I needed to rejoice. I needed to boast in my weakness and persevere because God had placed me in this position for a reason. The reason to grow in my faith and let his strength and light shine through my inadequacies so that people could see Jesus’ strength through me and in turn may glorify God.
I encourage you to also hold onto this verse when you are placed in a role or job that you feel like you aren’t capable or gifted in because God has put you there for the purpose to glorify Him. He wants to give you power and strength in your weakness to make it through those times that you don’t think you can accomplish or succeed in those roles. God’s power is made PERFEFCT in your weakness, so whenever you feel weak, hold on to God’s strength, for the bible says, when you are weak, then you are strong.
