Every year I make NY’s Resolutions, and at the end of every year, I never achieve them. So why do I continue to make them? What’s the point?

Coming to 2014, I have come to the realisation that I don’t need specific dates or special occasions like NY’s or my birthday to motivate me to begin making changes in my life. Changing bad habits or character traits that I could start doing right now and continue into lifelong habits should not have to be restricted to a year.

Similarly, God never gives us restrictions or specific dates when we can return to Him when we stray away. We can ALWAYS turn back to Him, anytime and anywhere, genuinely ask for forgiveness and be restored by His incredible grace and unconditional love. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” and 1 John 1:9 says, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. However, there will be a day when God will judge the whole world, but until then, God is always waiting for us, with open arms to receive, forgive and redeem us. So what are you waiting for?

This year, I haven’t made any NY’s Resolutions. I’m finishing off the ones that I made last year which were: 1) Reading and applying scripture that I have read from the bible every day, 2) Being thankful for something every day and 3) Encouraging someone every day. These are goals that I hope to be doing unconsciously every day, no matter what year it is and I hope to add to them as the year goes on.

What changes in your life or aspirations do you have? What’s stopping you from starting to fulfil them right now? Life on earth is precious and we should make the most of the time that we have.
