I was raised in a Christian home. I’ve attended church for as long as I can remember. I chose to commit my life to Christ and be baptised when I was 16 and only now, I truly understand what it’s all about.
Christianity is not a religion.
It’s not a chore.
It’s not a timetable.
It’s not rules and regulations.
It’s not forced labour.
It’s not supposed to make you feel guilty, shame, embarrassed, fearful, hopeless or lonely.
It’s not just a Sunday event, a two hour group session or a prayer sess every night.
It’s not about being better or worse than anyone else.
It’s not about earning someone’s love or seeking someone’s approval.
It’s not about being perfect or doing all the right things.
Christianity is about being in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
It’s about being real and honest about who you are without judgement.
It’s about being able to say you are broken and don’t have everything right.
It’s about having someone to listen and comfort you when you are hurting or grieving.
It’s about having someone to talk to and understand you when no one can or wants to.
It’s about being forgiven and set free from lies, past relationships, temptations and struggles.
It’s about being healed from physical, emotional, mentally and spiritual pain.
It’s about being unconditionally loved and valued when people say you’re not worth it.
It’s about Jesus wanting to seek you out, Jesus wanting to know you for who you are and Jesus wanting to be your friend because you are perfect and worth His time.
It’s all about Jesus willing to endure suffering, torture, ridicule, pain and crucifixion on a cross, because He saw you, loved you and wanted to be in relationship with you, not just for a short time but eternally.
This is why I call myself a Christian and believe in Jesus Christ. The reason I pray is because I want to have chats and D&M’s with Jesus. I read the bible because Jesus talks to me through the words and it makes me get a glimpse of who He is. I love going to church because I get to hear from Him and I get to be around people who are as broken as me but who are willing to share, grow, support and love one another just as Jesus loved them. I am doing this mission trip because I want to experience Jesus and show the love He has shown me to others that have yet to know Him.
Christianity is not a religion but a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Do you get it? Because I only just did.
