DELAWARE!!
In the past two weeks no less that 5 people I know through the World Race have graced Delaware with their presence. Take THAT big states! In an attempt to lure even more visitors to my little corner of the world here are some facts about Delaware:
1. Delaware was the first state to ratify the US constitution in 1787. And, little known fact i found today
while researching: “This is why people from Delaware are always wearing big foam fi ngers and shouting “we’re #1!”” I have always wondered why…
2. When you come to Delaware you gain a very high (and contagious) level of American pride. Sometimes this leads you to buy hats in the Dollar Store. Sometimes you wear them everywhere you go. Things happen.
3. Delaware is within driving distance of many great attractions… 1000 Islands region of New York, Traci’s home for the summer in NJ, Cheesesteaks, etc.

4.
Henry Heimlich, inventor of the Heimlich Maneuver, was born in Wilmington, Delaware. So was Nancy Lengkeek. Gary and Nancy were married in Delaware. Delaware is now probably Gary’s favorite place on earth…
5. The Charc
oal Pit is a
local establishment opened in the 1950’s. It is “touted as Delaware’s best burger.” They make a great milk shake and a mean B.L.T. 4/5 of World Race Delaware Visitors have eaten here.
6. The highest point in Delaware is located on Ebright Road at a towering at a whopping 448ft above sea level. It is accessible by car, bike or foot. You probably won’t even break a sweat!
7. The frying pan built in 1950 for use at the Delmarva Chicken Festival is 10 feet in diameter and holds 180 gallons of oil and 800 chicken quarters. You can still make it into town in time for this years festival.
8. The state bird in the Blue Hen Chicken. And our state bug is the Ladybug. We are a very fearsome state.
9: Our Chief exports are chickens. Chief Import you ask? Natural Energy from the Minnesota Power House .

10. Sarah Elizabeth Burrows aliases: Molet, Burrsidos, Beupre, SarahEB, and most recently Fanny A. Turtle was born and raised here. She is pretty cool and doesn’t
have too much time on her hands.
Hope you enjoyed this educational look into Delaware! It’s good being first! (that’s on the highway sign when you come cruising in… guess you should come see for yourself!)
